Disco Bistro has been on our radar for a while now, and with its small but perfectly varied menu we just had to take a trip down to the City.
We decided to sit downstairs in the bar area, where the menu is limited to 'Buns', chips (cooked in beef dripping mind) and the all important Wings.
Beef dripping chips, Spicy wings (Front), Sticky wings (rear) - please excuse the crappy iphone shots |
The choice was easy; 1 portion of Sticky, 1 portion of Spicy and a side of chips.

Presentation
Diner-style presentation, in plastic baskets. No garnishes or adornment - It took about 3 wings to realise there was no dip or coleslaw, a clear indication that these wings just don't need it.Coating
Disco Bistro have managed the ultimate chicken wing coating marvel - how to keep the wings crunchy while still smothering them in sticky or spicy sauce.Meat
These were some proper sized wings. Soft, juicy and flavoursome - the size of these wings means you get a proper mouthful each time.Sauce
Spicy - Were just spicy enough - some of the milder ones that we have had, but they left just the right amount of burn that made them a pleasurable accompaniment to your pint.Sticky - Tangy, sweet and sour, a complete contrast to the Spicy - They had lashings of sauce that just exploded your taste buds! The only downfall we found is that if you don't eat them quickly that can get a bit 'claggy', but we think under normal circumstances these wouldn't last the time it took for them to cool down.
Value for money
£7 for 6 wings can seem expensive, but these are some decent size wings cooked by a chef who really knows his flavours. Chips were £3 a bowl, good portion size and piping hot when we got them.Have we been turned, do The Wing Men no longer just crave Hot & Spicy wings? It's not an answer we should rush into, but Disco Bistro have done something remarkable here. Seriously, we fell in love a little with their Sticky wings and are already counting down the days until our next visit.
